Reframes competitiveness away from the obvious and gets specifics: board games, cooking, arguing, work, driving. It also lets him admit to something faintly ridiculous, which is usually where the good conversation starts.

This looks silly and is not, which is why it belongs in a light set: everyone has one drawer standing in for a decision. If the reading suddenly feels pointed, that is the question you actually came with.

Concrete and slightly awkward, which is why it works. A flat 'nothing' this early is usually flattery rather than truth, and worth gently pressing on.
